Final Fantasy IV coming to Japanese VC Aug. 4

The original Final Fantasy IV -- sans DS upgrades -- will hit Japan's Virtual Console on August 4 for 900 Wii Points. The news comes soon after Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was summoned to the region. The release of the fourth installment seems natural, as Final Fantasy I - III are already available on the VC in Japan. So, yeah, still nothing new to report about any of the classic Final Fantasy games coming to North America. It appears those seeking a potion of nostalgia will have to consume it across the many iterations released on Nintendo handhelds over the years.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

UK chart get: Harry Potter and the EA Games of Popularity

EA has dominated the UK charts once again, as the publisher saw three of its titles grace the top five spots in the All Formats category last week. Chart-Track data shows that the one-two punch of a new Harry Potter movie in cinemas and a new game on store shelves was too potent a potion for UK customers to ignore, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince shooting to the top spot.Harry and his Gryffindor chums were joined by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which dropped from the second spot all the way to third, and Fight Night Round 4, a previous top spotter that has plummeted to fifth place. Rounding out the remainder of the top five were Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which rested comfortably in second, and Wii Fit, which has dropped down to fourth.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Finding it hard to get interested in the June NPDs? Perhaps a visual aide from the folks at Gamasutra will help boost your enthusiasm. They've compiled the sales figures from all of 2009's NPD charts to find the top five best-selling games of the year thus far on each of the three home consoles. The big winner so far on the PS3 is Killzone 2, trailed closely by Resident Evil 5. Santana (officially) joins Guitar Hero 5 roster

It's a new week, and Activision is already at it confirming more tracks for Guitar Hero 5 that we've already told you are in the game. Today it's a jam from none other than the king of Latin rock himself, Carlos "Santana" Santana. A live version of the track "No One to Depend On" from the band Santana's second self-titled album, 1971's Santana, will appear on the game disc. Santana himself -- well, a polygonal likeness, at least -- will also appear in the game as a playable character. Might we suggest that fans of the guitar god celebrate this news with a glass of Santana DVX, the sparkling wine of which "each sip hits your lips like a landmine."Permalink | Email this | Comments

We do have the one exciting screenshot you see above, but that's not a lot, so we've embedded the movie trailer after the break for your enjoyment. If it can warm our icy hearts, it can warm anyone's.

Scribblenauts: one level, many solutions

This is exactly the kind of thing we wanted to see with Scribblenauts: the same puzzle attempted multiple times, each using different means. A series of videos on Nintendo Raw shows one of the game's puzzles, in which the player is dangled from a rope next to a caged Starite, also suspended, using different items. After the break, we've embedded our favorite take on the puzzle, which earns that distinction for its use of a moustache as a problem-solving item -- wearing it causes the hat to which the rope is suspended to come off. Check Nintendo Raw to see several more attempts, some more successful than others.
