The event in Times Square is just the beginning and marks the start of a nationwide tour that will see Nintendo attending various fairs and festivals throughout the rest of summer. For the full list of where and when Nintendo will be making stops, head past the break.

'Splosion Man could detonate on PS3, Wii

Frank Wilson, co-founder and CTO of Twisted Pixel, said his studio's library of recent downloadable titles could potentially see life on other platforms. Just yesterday, Twisted Pixel unleashed the XBLA title 'Splosion Man, blasting the humorous hero and Xbox owners into Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion. In an interview with Endsights, Wilson said the small developer is not tied to any specific platform and the studio would consider a PlayStation Network and WiiWare release of 'Splosion Man and the studio's adorable adventure title, The Maw, if it "found the right arrangement." So, other platforms could be in the cards, but Twisted Pixel is happy with what it's been able to achieve on the Xbox platform, so far. "We're getting pretty skilled with the Xbox 360, so it's definitely easiest for us to stick with it," Wilson said. Wilson's words aren't confirmation that either title will see life on other platforms, but at least we've cleared the air of any existing Microsoft money-hats.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Comic-Con 2009: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom arcade stick mockups from Mad Catz

Don't get too excited: the lovely Mad Catz Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Standard Edition FightStick above isn't real. It's a "non-playable mockup" that Mad Catz is showing off at Comic-Con. Capcom-Unity reports that Mad Catz is soliciting feedback about the stick -- presumably not only about the design, but about the level of interest among Wii owners for a high-end arcade stick. Yes, please! We were wondering if Mad Catz would step up to support Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Currently, our only arcade stick option in the US is the Hori Fighting Stick Wii, and that's getting hard to find. We'd love to be able to, like, go to a store and buy a nice arcade stick.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Band Hero DS attachments revealed, gameplay details

Click for life-size DS!
If you and your bandmates are ready to take your five-star show on the road, get ready to grab your DS Lites and crank the speakers up to elev ... well, push the little volume switch all the way to the right. Activision's Band Hero is coming to the DS, and includes four-player ad-hoc for full-band rocking. Players can use the On Tour guitar attachment, drop some vocals on the system's built-in mic, or use the drum skin attachment pictured above to supply the percussional accompanyment. There's just one minor caveat -- if you've already upgraded to the DSi, then you're S.O.L. Not only will the guitar attachments not be able to plug into the GBA cartridge port that the system doesn't have, the drum skin won't fit on the handheld's svelte frame. Sorry, early adopters!Permalink | Email this | Comments

House of the Dead: Overkill shambling off Amazon for $20

Looking for an excuse to pick up the already cheap (and awesome) House of the Dead: Overkill? Amazon has got you covered, as Sega's ill-fated yet profitable zombie blaster is the latest Deal of the Day. These babies are priced to move at a mere $20. If you've been hankering for some decent, co-op undead action, you'd be hard-pressed to do much better.Be warned though. While one would certainly think a zombie shooting spree would be fun for the whole family, Overkill is not for the kids. Turns out there are just a few swear words in there.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ace Attorney Investigation: Miles Edgeworth coming stateside February 16

Capcom's in a fairly generous mood this morning! Its spirits are seemingly bolstered by the opening of the San Diego Comic-Con -- in tandem with the convention's kickoff, they sent a press release full of announcements. The most exciting of which is, of course, the revelation of the February 16 release date for Ace Attorney Investigation: Miles Edgeworth. You may object to the amount of time now standing between you and the highly animated Law & Order sim -- but if you happen to be attending the Con this year, you can get an early look at the game at Capcom's booth, you lucky, lucky so-and-so.

Warlock of Firetop Mountain dev: 'big guys' not interested in DS-exclusive games

Big Blue Bubble had difficulty finding a publisher for The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, its newly announced DS adaptation of the Fighting Fantasy book series, before finally discovering Aspyr Media. Damir Slogar, the developer's CEO, told CVG (who also has the first screens of the game) that other publishers expressed a lack of interest in the game based on its platform."Everyone we showed the game loved it but the 'big guys' like EA, Ubi or Activision were not interested in DS only titles," Slogar said. That attitude is no surprise from the massively multiplatform EA and Activision, but it's unusual coming from Ubisoft, which has the DS-exclusive COP: The Recruit on the way and has made a pile of money from the infamous, primarily DS-based Petz and Imagine lines.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Sub Pop announces support for Rock Band Network starting this fall

Riding on the coattails of last Friday's Rock Band Network reveal, indie label Sub Pop is the first record company to officially pledge its support for the new DLC initiative. Rolling Stone spoke with Sub Pop A&R exec Tony Kiewel, who said, "This conceivably could be the opening of the floodgates." Sub Pop intends to convert its "entire catalog" -- which includes Sonic Youth, early Nirvana, and The Postal Service -- to playable tracks.Additionally, Kiewel notes that future artists' releases on his label will automatically get the Rock Band treatment. "This'll be another format alongside vinyl and CD." The only difference between buying the newest Shins album from the Rock Band Network versus at the record store? The disdainful look from the Paramore t-shirt-clad cashier on your way out of the record store.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Xbox 360 and DS see significant growth, in spite of industry slowdown

The video game industry is not "recession-proof," as many have trumpeted. So far, the industry has seen a 12 percent decline in revenue in the first half of 2009 versus the same period in 2008. Sales of hardware have slowed down as well, with Nintendo selling 13 percent fewer Wii systems and PS3 selling 30 percent less. There are a few bright spots, however.Gamasutra notes that Microsoft has "caught its second wind," selling a dramatic 21 percent more Xbox 360 units so far this year. (Aaron Greenberg was right!) This achievement is even more remarkable when one considers the challenges of this economic climate. Astoundingly, the Nintendo DS has also managed to increase its sales, which begs the question: Who doesn't already own one -- or two? When coupled with the newly introduced DSi, combined sales of Nintendo handhelds have gone up more than 56 percent from last year.Sony continues to struggle with its PlayStation trifecta, as the aging PS2 slowly loses its relevance and consumers appear reluctant to spend $400 on a PS3. We'd continue this paragraph, but it's pretty clear what Sony needs to do if it wants to turn things around.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Infinite Space anime prelude part two: Pirates riding dinosaurs

Wow. We figured the line, "Praying, we drift in coffins afloat at sea. It is a good day to die!" that kicks off this second Production I.G. / Gonzo-animated prelude to Platinum Games' space-faring action-RPG, Infinite Space, would pretty much be its high point but oh were we ever wrong. In the span of this two-minute short, you've got a heap of space combat (seemingly directed by someone playing a keyboard) and space pirates, including one who's perched atop a space dinosaur. It's easily one of the weirdest things you'll watch today. We'd say the weirdest thing, but the internet's surprising that way.Permalink | Email this | Comments
