Comic-Con 2009: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles videos shamble forth

Capcom has come out in full force for Comic-Con 2009 and brought along with it several new juicy tidbits to savor for each of its upcoming games. In this post, we're highlighting a pair of new gameplay trailers for upcoming Wii sequel Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. The first bit of footage above focuses on Leon and Claire's time in the Raccoon City police station as they gun down everything in sight, while the second video (after the break) showcases Claire and her young companion, Steve, navigating the dark halls and disgusting enemies of Rockfort Island. Metroid Prime Trilogy trailer: We're sold

Is it the music? Nah, it's everything about this montage of footage from all three Metroid Prime installments that comprise the upcoming Metroid Prime Trilogy compilation that has us saying, "do want!" And hey, you really can't argue with three excellent games, two of which have been retrofitted with widescreen support in addition to Wii Remote / Nunchuk based controls. In fact, there's nothing about this release that hasn't struck us as top-notch, from the packaging to the killer pre-order bonuses. This is how you build a tropical island in Times Square

Nintendo's conversion of Times Square into a tropical island getaway for Wii Sports Resort was nothing short of astounding. Imagine having to set up an area with tons of sand poured into the middle of one of NYC's busiest intersections, a makeshift wading pool, and nearly a dozen Wii systems available for demos. It's a huge effort, as you can see by this impressive timelapse video of the setup.

Comic-Con 2009: New Tatsunoko vs. Capcom footage

Capcom released new media for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom today, including videos featuring Tatsunoko characters Karas and Ken the Eagle, and Capcom characters Alex and Viewtiful Joe. We were really impressed with the fighting game translation of Joe -- it looks just like Viewtiful Joe from his own game. We're very glad Capcom didn't give up on putting Joe in a fighting game after, you know, the Viewtiful Joe fighting game.Head past the break at mach speed to see another video of these four characters in action. Nintendo won't make Wii MotionPlus a new standard


Nintendo converted Times Square into a tropical island getaway for a day to celebrate this coming Sunday's launch of Wii Sports Resort, the first sequel to Nintendo's flagship Wii title. We had a chance to chat with Bill Trinen, product marketing manager for Nintendo of America, while overlooking the festivities below. He told us that in spite of the advances made by Wii MotionPlus, he doesn't see Nintendo enforcing it as a new standard. "I don't think that we would or that we would necessarily require other developers to do so either," Trinen said. "Something like Wii MotionPlus and whether or not you want to incorporate that is more of a creative decision that's up to each individual developer.""I think it certainly suits specific types of games, but it may not make sense to include Wii MotionPlus in every game," Trinen continued. "For example, if you look at the motion controls of New Super Mario Bros. for Wii that's coming out this holiday, it's not the kind of control that requires or would really benefit from more precise movements. So it doesn't make sense for a development team to spend time implementing something that's going to enhance the end experience. I do think over time, we're going to see a lot of developers taking a look at it and finding things they can do that they couldn't do with the standard Wii Remote and we're going to see those experiences come to life."When asked if Nintendo had any plans to revise the standard Wii Remote to include Wii MotionPlus tech, Trinen replied, "those are all good ideas. We've thought about all that as well. At this point, we're really just focused on launching Wii Sports Resort and obviously getting Wii MotionPlus off to a good start and getting it to the hands of as many of the Wii consumers as we can. Limited SaGa 2 DSi celebrates 20 years of SaGa, looks great

While we continue to wrap our minds around the idea that a SaGa game (specifically the SaGa 2 remake) can be worth playing, Square Enix has easily convinced us that a SaGa-themed DSi is worth playing games on. The company revealed the limited-edition SaGa 20th anniversary system, which will be sold with a copy of SaGa 2 and will release on the same September 17 date as the standalone version.The system features the SaGa logo and a circular logo with the title of each game in the series. Review: Little King's Story (Wii)

When I started Cing/Town Factory's Little King's Story, I expected to find a cute, very charming little strategy game whose flaws prevented it from greatness, like most games this heavy on the quirkiness factor. I was blindsided by how much fun I continued to have through hours of play. It's rare for a game to be this cute and odd, but also this good. I found this game utterly magical, and I hate strategy games.

Club Nintendo Japan updates with flying Kirby and more

Nintendo of Japan just updated its Club Nintendo rewards shop with a bunch of new exclusive items that will no doubt have you crying into your canvas Wiimote storage box. The most eye-catching new item is the 350-Coin Kirby flying disc, which looks just like a flat Kirby made out of nylon. Other new items include Zelda posters, a Mario & Luigi 3 soundtrack (which is discounted for those who purchased the game), pencil cases, and a very cute set of Animal Crossing magnet clips. 'Impossible ideas come to life' in Disney's Alice in Wonderland games


Whether that includes the idea of making a halfway decent game based on a Hollywood film has yet to be seen, of course. Opting for director Tim Burton over American McGee (currently working on a separate Alice project), Disney Interactive Studios has announced that a new batch of Alice in Wonderland games will arrive early next year, just in time for the upcoming movie. While Wii and PC versions will "follow the film's epic storyline and introduce new fiction and locations," the DS Wonderland will diverge and introduce a different art style, as well as an extra playable character alongside the imperiled Alice.The games, which are in development at French studio Étranges Libellules, seem centered on an upgradeable combat system and the use of support characters, like the Cheshire Cat or the Mad Hatter. According to Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing at DIS, "Alice in Wonderland introduces fans to an entirely new style of innovative gameplay designed to challenge the puzzle solving skills of older players while making the adventures accessible and enjoyable for the younger crowd." That quote's probably going to be trimmed a little for the back of the box, but you'll get the idea.Those averse to boxes of any sort will be pleased to note that Alice in Wonderland is also slated to hit the iPhone, iPod Touch and mobile phones not made by Apple in early 2010.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
