Sushi Go Round coming to DS and Wii

We have to admit, we're always a little bummed when we see free games coming to cartridges. Take Sushi Go Round, for instance. It's a tough time management game that's been downloaded more than 60 million times from Miniclip.com. Now, SouthPeak and Asylum are bringing the game to the Wii and DS, where, presumably, you'll have to buy them.We don't begrudge anyone getting paid, and we know that this will bring the game to new audiences. But doesn't turning a free game into something you have to buy miss the point?Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Guitar Hero 5 starts the party on September 1

The website for Guitar Hero 5 opened, revealing the release date for this year's biggest Guitar Hero sequel: September 1. Expect to somehow end up purchasing it whether you want to or not, just like every Guitar Hero game.If you'd like more info on this inevitable purchase, Gamespot posted, in addition to some new screens and brief footage, some details on the game's new "Party Play" mode. This feature is designed to allow total flexibility in social situations. Party Play allows you to start the game with no players, using a playlist of Guitar Hero music as a sort of jukebox. When people decide they want to play a song, they can pick up an instrument, push a button, and begin playing immediately. This is also where the game's instrument flexibility comes in. Party Play is designed to allow any combination of instruments, in case you want to play Barbershop Quartet Hero.

Idolmaster: Dearly Stars coming to DS

As you may or may not know, the Idolmaster rhythm game series is so popular in Japan that the most commonly selected name for newborns there last year was [insert some name from Idolmaster's Wikipedia entry here]. Now that it's -- according to some Famitsu scans -- apparently coming to DS in Idolmaster: Dearly Stars, we expect the Land of the Rising Sun to love it even harder. Look for it to be elected "King of Forever" by the fall. Also, congrats to Team Idolm@ster for coming up with the most awkward DS backronym yet.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Tecmo Bowl Wii on indefinite hold, franchise coming to XBLA in 'early 2010'

Tecmo has confirmed that Tecmo Bowl for Wii was put on hold and converted into Family Fun Football. A Tecmo rep informed G4 that "given the recent trend on the Wii and its target audience," Tecmo made a "business decision" to switch the Tecmo Bowl project into a "family oriented football game." For now, Tecmo Bowl for Wii is "indefinitely on hold."However, there is good news for Xbox 360 owners, as a Tecmo Bowl for Xbox Live Arcade is in the works for early 2010. There are currently no details on the game, but there may be some information next week at E3. Wii owners who were looking forward to Tecmo Bowl for the console may want to pick up its second-cousin thrice removed: Family Fun Football.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

High Voltage announces another new Wii game: 'The Grinder'

The Conduit developer High Voltage Software has announced another new Wii game, and, like Gladiator A.D., it's a brutally violent game designed to attract the bloodthirsty "hardcore gamer." The Grinder is an online co-op FPS starring "a sort of the cryptobiological A-Team," in the words of High Voltage's Eric Nofsinger, who goes on to refer to "a team of freelance hunters that ruthlessly exterminate savage armies of bloodthirsty monsters."The FPS shows a clear (and acknowledged) Left 4 Dead influence, with each member of the team different in skills and personality. The game differs from L4D in that instead of just zombies, your team fights werewolves, vampires and all manner of other mythical shootables.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Nintendo trademarks 'Wii Fit Plus' and 'Art Academy'

Nintendo's core needs a workout, but it looks like the company may be planning to pump up its casual audience even more at next week's E3 with Wii Fit Plus. Originally uncovered in April via purported retailer listings, the game's title has been officially trademarked by Nintendo in Japan. Heck, there's even a logo for the game. Since the month-old rumor has borne fruit in terms of an accurate title, we're more likely to believe the November 2009 release date it claimed. Also trademarked by the Big N is Art Academy, a previously unheard -of title with no target platform mentioned. Detailed drawing would seem to lend itself more to DS, though we can't help but imagine a game in the vein of Wii Music in which players "paint" great works of art -- the Mona Lisa, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel -- simply by waggling the Wiimote around.[Via Siliconera]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumored video of Aliens: Colonial Marines for DS surfaces

What's the real deal with the Aliens franchise, recently? Ask Sega -- except don't, because you're pretty unlikely to get a straight answer from the company regarding the whereabouts of Aliens: Colonial Marines or the Obsidian-developed Aliens RPG. This new video, which can be seen after the break, is even more mysterious. It appears to be a 2D side-scrolling Aliens game developed by WayForward -- the people making A Boy and His Blob -- and Gearbox, developer of the console and PC version of Colonial Marines (if it still exists, that is).Could this be a DS version of that same title, or is this something completely separate? Is it in development, or scrapped? The video description says it's a canceled project that was completed and shelved due to financial trouble at Sega. We've reached out to Sega for comment, but we're not counting on finding out much. [Via Destructoid]
