Tatsunoko vs. Capcom clips cause billions in damage

The best part of Capcom's Vs. fighters isn't the character roster, though of course Vs. games tend to have awesome selections. No, it's the ridiculous, super-fast aerial combat. Unfortunately, if you're not directly engaged in said combat (or even if you are), it can be way too frantic and flashy to understand. The Tatsunoko vs. Capcom clip above, and the other after the break, demonstrate this issue. Yatterman and Doronjo (from the Yatterman anime), and Saki and Morrigan (from Quiz Nanairo Dreams and Darkstalkers, respectively) go into battle, and then ... a bunch of stuff happens, causing billions of unspecified units of damage, and then suddenly it's over. We don't really know what happened, but we know we want to be involved in it.

NintendoWare Weekly: Bit Boy!! brings the bits

This week's biggest release is undoubtedly Bplus' Bit Boy!!, an odd title that pays homage to the various bits that make up gaming's past. Bit Boy!! runs the gamut from gaming's humble beginnings during the 4-bit era, all the way up to the last generation's 128-bit capabilities. The goal is to rescue Bit Boy Kubi's pals, who've been imprisoned across the various worlds.

This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Wii Sports Resort

This week's Nintendo Channel content focuses on Wii Sports Resort, which is only natural considering the game releases in little over a week. Aside from the overview of the game above, there's also a rather interesting 10-minute video showing some golf pros take to the links in the game. For the rest of this week's content, head past the break.

Mario and Sonic's winter outing dated for October 16

We may have ragged on the first Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games a lot, but -- as horrible as we thought it was -- it managed to capture the interest (and money) of almost every man, woman, and child in all of the UK. So, Sega is working as fast as it can to get the latest version of its new money-printing machine, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, out to retail, announcing that the game will release this October.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

One of the Idolmaster idols is a boy

The Idolm@ster: Dearly Stars is interesting for more than just being the first entry in Namco Bandai's rhythm game/management series on Japan's favorite console. It's notable in that it deals with some surprisingly complex topics for a bubbly anime-style game -- though, of course, they seem to be handled in the bubbliest, most anime-style way possible.A few days ago, it was revealed that idol Hidaka Ai is the daughter of a former idol who had to leave the business after becoming pregnant with Ai at age 16. Now, a new video reveals that another of the idols, Akizuki Ryo, is a boy disguised as a girl. Who knew these fictional idols had such complicated lives? The news has actually increased interest among users of Japan's Nicovideo site. The video, from Namco Bandai's own Idolm@ster channel on Nicovideo, is embedded after the break.

Watch the DSiWare Game & Watch games

Nintendo has videos of the DSiWare releases of Game & Watch games on its DSiWare site. Famitsu also has screens. In both cases, though, there aren't really any surprises. The presentation is pretty straightforward: an authentic recreation of the game on the top screen, and a logo on the bottom screen. That's perfectly fine with us, because the games look like they're supposed to. Even though no announcement has been made about a North American release, we much prefer this delivery method for Game & Watch games over the Club Nintendo method. It's cheaper to just buy a DSi and then grab these for two bucks each than to buy a bunch of other stuff and then use points from those purchases.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Dragon Quest IX sells 2.3 million copies in two days

Japanese consumers eagerly grabbed up copies of Square Enix's Dragon Quest IX over the weekend, putting to rest any concern that the move to a handheld system would bother fans in the least. Enterbrain reports that the game sold 2,343,440 copies in its first week -- its "first week" actually being two days. Media Create reports a similar total of 2,318,932 copies. This beats the first-week record set by ... Dragon Quest VIII, of course! Media Create reports a sell-through rate of 81.56%, suggesting (according to Andriasang) that it probably sold out in some locations. There's something very comforting about reading stories of massive Dragon Quest sales in Japan. It's a reminder that some things in the gaming world are just like we remember them, even after decades. After the break, you can watch the game's intro movie as you begin the long wait for localization.[Image via GAME Watch, video via Gemaga]

Tales of Monkey Island sails to strong Steam sales

Telltale's continuation of the Monkey Island series is apparently doing well on Steam. The distribution platform's sales chart shows that the first season pre-order of Mr. Threepwood's latest adventure was the top selling game "by revenue" for the week. Rounding out the top three sales spots on the service are Street Fighter IV and Fallout 3. If you're sitting on the fence -- made out of the boats LeChuck has sunk -- about purchasing the game, check out our review or the demo first. If you don't own a PC, the Wii version is en route and an Xbox 360 version may be available "later on."Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Madmen completing every Mario game for charity

We love Mario. We mean, we're somewhat contractually obligated to, being huge nerds and all. Still, there's certain stages in the core Mario games that are simply excruciating to play -- we usually skip them during our nostalgic romps. That's why we can't help but admire the efforts of three men who are playing through every Super Mario title -- collecting every star, completing every level and Shining every Get! (Err -- getting every Shine.)They're not doing this for fun, of course -- for the second year in a row, they're running through this "Mario Marathon," collecting donations for Child's Play. They've already been at it for two days -- but with the team yet to totally complete Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine, then Super Mario Galaxy again (as that totally secret character), there's a lot of ballgame left to be played.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
