Reality check: Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M not due 'til 2010

Nintendo's newly announced sojourns into space, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M, are already sending avid Wii fans into convulsive seizures of glee (gleezures, if you will). Though it's the kind of behavior that blends well with the bustling E3 crowds, it's rarely professional for those of us trying to do work. As a preventative measure, we've etched the tragic facts of Nintendo's release schedule into our minds, bringing us down to earth from the galactic highs offered by Mario and Samus' returns. They're currently not due until 2010. Gleezure contained.

Nintendo reveals Q1 2010 release for Sin & Punishment 2

Nintendo opened up its assets site at the conclusion of its E3 keynote, and while digging around for juicy bits of media to unload on you, dear reader, at rock-bottom prices, we found something interesting regarding Treasure's upcoming Wii title Sin & Punishment 2. The game is listed for a Q1 2010 release, according to Nintendo, which comes as a pleasant surprise to us. Sure, the game was always expected to arrive in 2009, but without hearing or seeing anything on it in around a year, we're comforted simply by the fact that Nintendo still knows it exists.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Dead Space Extraction's E3 Nintendo press conference video

Nintendo's press conference was mostly designed for "a wider demographic," but there was some visceral violence from Visceral's Dead Space Extraction during the show. Check out the video above and try to survive.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Team Ninja collaborating with Nintendo on Metroid Other M

Well, we didn't see this coming. Team Ninja is apparently collaborating with Nintendo on Metroid: Other M. It's going to "reveal a Metroid game unlike any you've experienced before", and it's both first and third person and it's coming in 2010. Oh, and Samus speaks! We're still not sure how we feel about it, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that Samus will get jiggle tech. Don't ask us about the logistics, that's not our job.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Super Mario Galaxy 2 shown for Wii

Two new Mario platformers for Wii in one press conference? Believe it. Nintendo has just unveiled Super Mario Galaxy 2, which, as the company pointed out, will mark the first time two 3D Mario adventures have appeared on the same platform.Mario's back traversing the galaxy on spherical worlds -- and he's brought an old friend: Yoshi. As in Super Mario World, Mario will ride Yoshi, who can now obtain power-ups of his own, including one that makes him puff up like a balloon. Mario's bee suit will make a return from the first Mario Galaxy as will classic side-scrolling style levels. So, folks -- are you jazzed, even though we don't have a release date?Permalink | Email this | Comments

Nintendo reveals the heart-tracking Wii Vitality Sensor

Satoru Iwata just announced the latest health-related peripheral for the Nintendo Wii -- the Wii Vitality Sensor. We're still extremely confused as to the purpose of the device, or how it will be implemented in a game, but here's a brief breakdown: It's a biorythm sensor that connects to your finger and transmits your heart rate to the Wii. How will that be used in gameplay? Will it make an appearance in Wii Fit Plus? We just don't know.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Go skydiving, do archery, shoot hoops in Wii Sports Resort

Nintendo has just announced three more activities in their upcoming Wii Sports Resort title. The game will make full use of the Wii MotionPlus controller for skydiving, archery, and basketball -- to skydive, your Mii will be falling through the air, and you'll be able to twist and turn the controller in a 1:1 ratio to twist and turn your skydiver as well. Archery looks a little more fun: hit the Z button on the controller and then hold the Wiimote up while pulling back on the nunchuck like a bowstring. And basketball is basically a game of hoops -- instead of dribbling or passing, you just flip the Wii remote up towards the onscreen hoop to try and grab nothing but net.Wii Sports Resort is due out July 26 of this year, all bundled up with Wii MotionPlus.Permalink | Email this | Comments

COP: The Recruit takes you to an urban open world on the DS

Nintendo has just announced COP: The Recruit, created by Ubisoft, for the DS at their E3 press conference. It's an open-world third-person urban crime game with an anime edge -- you play as a street racer who's been cuffed, and has to choose between working for the police or returning to your criminal ways. The short video they showed was reminiscent of both Driver and GTA -- running, shooting, committing acts that would normally get you locked up, all on the DS's dual screens. We've got no date at all for when this might actually appear on store shelves, but we're guessing it'll be some point in the future. Sometime after this exact second right now.Permalink | Email this | Comments
