The Beatles: Rock Band site unveils Ed Sullivan studio

The background image on the Beatles: Rock Band site has changed from a studio full of instruments to a reproduction of the set of the Ed Sullivan show from the Beatles' American debut on February 9, 1964. Without the band present, it just looks like the show is really proud of that drum riser. We're currently checking with Harmonix to verify whether you can play on this set in the actual game. With all the work that went into modeling it, it would be pretty silly if it didn't show up in the game. We would, then, also expect at least one of the songs performed at that "really big shew" to be playable: "All My Loving," "'Til There Was You," "She Loves You," and "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

Get wowed by gorgeous video game inspired paintings

DeviantART power user, Orioto, has been creating beautiful video game pieces for quite some time (you may have even seen some of his work on Joystiq) and his latest is no exception. Posted a few days ago, Orioto showcases Nintendo's famed heroine, Samus Aran, against a collection of deadly Metroids. The piece, much like his previous work, is stunning. For gamers with blank walls and deep pockets, Orioto also accepts commissions. Now excuse us while we get our art on ... this paint-by-numbers isn't going to finish itself![Thanks, RobT]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Deadpool returns for Ultimate Alliance 2

The "Merc with a Mouth," otherwise known as Deadpool, has received his official in-game reveal for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (and no, it's not the movie version of Deadpool). The official MUA 2 website has posted a developer diary in which the devs discuss what went into adding Deadpool into the game, including some details on his powers and fusion moves.

Deadpool will be able to utilize swords, grenades, teleportation and, if the above image is any indication, he also has pistols that fire bullets nearly as big as his head. That's intimidating no matter how you slice it. Check out some new images in the gallery below.[Via Marvel.com. Thanks, The Dark Wayne]

Shocker: New Dragon Ball games headed to Wii, 360, PS3

Attention Dragon Ball fans, we have some news that will probably make all kinds of sense to you. Daizex.com noticed reports of new games set in the Dragon Ball universe for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3. First up, French site Wiiz.fr has magazine scans showing off a new Wii game based on the original Dragon Ball series, apparently entitled Dragon Ball World: Big Adventure, a 2D/3D affair in which Son Goku (who?) faces the Red Ribbon Army (whatever that is).Meanwhile, Xbox Evolved reports that a new Dragon Ball Z game is on the way for Xbox 360 and PS3 entitled Dragon Ball Z: Raging Blast. Daizex.com suspects that the game is more closely related to something called Sparking! than Burst Limit. Sparking!, evidently, is the Japanese name for the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Or something. We don't really understand anything else, but we're sure it's all very exciting.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Luc Bernard confirms Mecho Wars hitting DSiWare, WiiWare

Amid an awkward (and drunken) confession that his life is in shambles following the end of his marriage, developer Luc Bernard confirmed Mecho Wars will release on WiiWare and DSiWare. Described as "similar to Advance Wars but with RPG elements," Mecho Wars had already been revealed as a WiiWare release.Mecho Wars will hit the iPhone app store and WiiWare first with a DSiWare release sometime after. No official release details for the dev's second title were mentioned in the YouTube confession. So far the game looks interesting and we extend well wishes to Bernard in the middle of his personal crisis. The first footage -- of the still-under-development title -- can be found after the break.[Via GoNintendo]

Looks like Riku is playable in Kingdom Hearts DS

According to a V-Jump ad for the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Collection Guidebook (an official strategy guide), Riku will be a playable character in the game. The delectable piece of information regarding this was found in the lower left part of the ad, and it states (translated via Andriasang) that the book provides tips on character missions for Donald, various Organization XIII members and, yes, even Riku. So, finally, those looking to control the silver-haired hero can realize their wish. Additionally, Andriasang translated more regarding 358/2 Days; this time, it's info from the official website. The latest update unveiled the new Hologram Missions, a mode which allows players to replay previously accomplished missions in either normal or trial versions (the latter tacks on special conditions and requirements). And, this being a Riku-centric post, we're wondering how many of those missions have Riku in them? There are 80 Trial missions in total, and here's hoping he's in all of them! Three new regal, musical, puzzling WiiWare games announced for Japan

Three different companies have announced new WiiWare games for Japan all at once, so we've decided to collect them all here. They're all completely different, but they get lumped together for us by virtue of the proximity of their announcements and release dates -- all are coming out in May or June.Poisoft's Order!! is another take on the RPG inversion found in My Life As a King, although this king simulation mixes a 16-bit RPG aesthetic with what looks like vintage Koei-style wargaming. 3℃ from Kemco and Cool&Warm is a basic color-matching puzzle game with multiplayer. And Fantasic Tambourine from Zoom is an incredibly cute rhythm game about a witch playing a tambourine. The last two appeared on Nintendo's list of upcoming releases from last October's media summit, and we're just now finding out about the games.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Codemasters has just dropped word to MCV that it is developing Ashes Cricket 2009, based on this year's The Ashes games. Codies brand manager Richard Gittins thinks that the game will be a big deal, based on how crazy people went over the games the last time they were hosted by the UK back in 2005, and expects strong sales. The game will feature all of the official matches and players (including big shots Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen and Ricky Pointing), as well as a Legends mode that tasks players with completing certain technical scenarios. Ashes Cricket 2009 will release this summer on Xbox 360, PC and PS3, with a Wii version of the game releasing some time later this year.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Metareview - Punch-Out!! (Wii)

It may not be a TKO, but Punch-Out!! on the Wii is certainly a knock-out. We've already entered the ring of public opinion with our review, but let's find out what the others in the peanut gallery have to say about it. It appears that -- much like Little Mac -- the series has aged gracefully and found a nice fit on the Wii.

  • Gamespy (90/100): "Punch-Out!! is destined to become one of this generation's top classics, right up there with Super Mario Galaxy. It's one heckuva peace offering for Nintendo's jilted lifers, an elaborate brainteaser for everyone who picks it up, and absolutely the best Punch-Out!! to date. If you're still fishing for a reason to own a Wii, this is it."
  • Game Informer (90/100): "Despite these complaints, the single-player has always been the focus of Punch-Out, and Next Level delivers. What better way to show your buddy up than to totally annihilate the boxer that just KO'd him?"
  • GamePro (90/100): "There's no denying it: Punch-Out!! is some of the most fun I've had on the Wii in quite some time. A spectacular trip down memory lane, Punch-Out!! manages to capture the old-school essence that made the 1987 original such a success, all the while integrating just enough new material to help it hold its own. While Punch-Out!! is by no means perfect, it's undoubtedly one of the finest arcade-inspired titles to grace store shelves in this "next gen" era, and is without a doubt worth any hardcore fight-fan's hard-earned cash."
  • GameTrailers (85/100): "It's disappointing that the motion controls are more a novelty than an effective way to play, but the personality, nostalgic nods, hidden goodies, and battle-tested, edge-of-your-seat gameplay demonstrate that some things never go out of style."
