Engadget gets in-depth with the Wii MotionPlus

Like trying to watch a foreign language film on a tiny TV, it seems that our buddies at Engadget can't figure out if they've got problems with the Wii MotionPlus technology, or just the way it's being used. The site recently did an exhaustive hands-on with Nintendo's new add-on, the fruits of which you can see here. The best implementation/demonstration for the super-sensitive tech seems to be manipulating an e-frisbee in 3D space, which is almost too precious and appropriate for our brains to comprehend.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Toy Story Mania & G-Force games to include 3-D glasses at retail

Disney has sent word that two of its upcoming releases, Toy Story Mania! and G-Force, will each include two sets of 3-D glasses at retail. When Toy Story Mania! was first announced in March, Disney told us it was on the fence about including the glasses right away. Both games offer unique features for use with the spectacles. In Toy Story Mania! two players can wear the glasses in a specific 3-D enhanced game mode, while G-Force will allow a spectator to view the onscreen action in 3-D. Of course, if the future of all entertainment is too much for some gamers to handle, the feature can be manually disabled. G-Force is scheduled to hit stores alongside the movie -- on which the game is based -- in July, while Toy Story Mania! ships this fall.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rock Band Wiikly: Pearl Jam, Mission of Burma, Offspring and more

Rock Band Wiikly's tap has flowed with massive quantities of tracks for weeks now. Sure, the releases aren't exactly synced with Rock Band Weekly, but the back catalog of Rock Band DLC is certainly being filled in. Our concern that it would take until mid-2010 for the full catalog sync is slowly dissipating. This week's update of 16 tracks to the Wii music store includes the Pearl Jam tracks from a couple weeks back, along with a whole mess of other stuff. Find the full list after the break.

Pachter: WiiHD still coming, Xbox in third by 2015

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is no stranger to the gaming scene. In fact, it's his job to guesstimate, speculate, and estiguess on all things gaming, and in his latest report (via IndustryGamers), he paints the future for all three console manufacturers. First up is Nintendo, a company that Pachter believes will remain in the top spot throughout this console generation. Due to the Wii's "low price point, innovative control mechanism, and compatibility with standard definition televisions." Pachter thinks that Nintendo will rest easy atop the gaming mountain. And he thinks the Wii HD is a big part of it, as Pachter firmly believes Nintendo will introduce a HD-compatible Wii at some point, even as early as next year. Then there's Sony and its PS3. Pointing to Sony's win in the Blu-ray vs HD DVD war, Pachter says the PS3 will capture "significant market share" through this alone, and says the company will take second place. Regardless, Pachter sees the PS3 and Xbox 360 sharing very similar market share at the conclusion of this generation.Moving on to Microsoft, Pachter believes the company will end this generation in third, largely due to the console's inability to sell in Japan. Pachter downplays the "losing" angle, however, stating that he believes Microsoft will sell twice as many Xbox 360s as the company did the original Xbox, which, granted it actually happens, would be a nice feather in Microsoft's cap.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Aspyr launches social networking site for Treasure World

Aspyr Media's innovative DS treasure hunt game Treasure World comes out this week, and to support it, the company has launched a site to allow players to find not just Wi-Fi-generated items, but each other as well.Club Treasure World allows players to show off their collections of items. Each item also has an associated sound, so players can set items down in specific configurations and create musical "Songscapes," which can also be shared on the site. Special awards and "treasure keys" will also be available through Club Treasure World. Most importantly, the site is a venue for the sharing of friend codes and a hub for item trading.Check out some new screens in our gallery. Treasure World is clearly kid-oriented, but the novelty factor of collecting unique items from different Wi-Fi signals seems like something that adults could find cool as well.
