Late yesterday, Atari officially announced that they will be publishing Ghostbusters: The Video Game, IGN reports. After Activision dropped the game earlier in the year, Atari began working closely with Sony on the project. Their hopes are to release the game in time for the original Ghostbusters 25th anniversary this upcoming June. The game has already garnered enough attention during its time in Activision's hands, with many of the original cast lending their talent in many ways to the game.
The story takes place two years after the events in Ghostbusters II, and is written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. It centers around reuniting the original ghost-fighting team of four; Ramis, Aykroyd, along with Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson. The Wii version of the game, as originally intended, focuses on multiplayer ghost-busting. Campaigns can be tackled by yourself, or with friends. Circa December 2007, this sounded like good concepts for a Wii title. But the delay of the game could mean great things for its future. With the introduction of Wii MotionPlus and Wii Speak, perhaps gamers could precisely coordinate ghost hunting efforts online with friends?
Phil Harrison, Infogrames President (parent company of Atari), has this to say on the announcement: "Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari's global line-up in 2009. The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem. There's no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack."
It will be interesting to see how the game will continue to develop under Atari's wings. Of any of the positive changes that could happen for the game, Wii MotionPlus would be the most likely to be worked in. Undoubtedly, Publishers can make game-breaking decisions in development processes as we've seen in the past. Of course, we should be all right if none of the ghosts in the game are named Blinky, Pinky, Inky, or Clyde.
lol hasnt it already been tossed around enough?
