Counterfeit DS sellers busted in UK

For the first time in the nation's history, a couple have been caught selling counterfeit DS systems. The dastardly duo set up shop in Kent, and were nabbed with 40 counterfeit handhelds. The two were unloading the units on unsuspecting eBay shoppers, with Bromley Trading Standards Department and local police catching the criminals. On top of the systems, the bust also resulted in the capture of faulty power units, game-copying devices, and 150 counterfeit games for the DS and GBA. Authorities suspect the couple made upwards of £50,000 during the month of December alone, and have been at this for at least two years. Remember, kids: crime doesn't pay. Unless it's the month of December and you're willing to go to jail for a long time the following month.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Pole's Big Adventure: Year of the Cow Suits

The countdown at the Eventful Journey! Pole's Big Adventure site has elapsed, revealing a lot of inscrutable Japanese info and wonderful media about the new Famicom parody game from Phantasy Star Universe producer Takao Miyoshi. While the graphics and Mario-esque gameplay suggest Nintendo, the music sounds kind of reminiscent of the Master System. Speaking of which, isn't it a bit strange for Sega to be revelling in NES nostalgia? The comedy-based game actually keeps a count of the jokes you encounter, and even has big red text on the screen commenting about it like a Japanese TV show! The site features character portraits for the major characters, including this hilariously non-representative "realistic" take on the protagonist. The main enemies are cow-suited "poachers", apparently chosen because 2009 is the year of the cow.Clicking on the red button under the control diagram will pop up a video. Speaking of controls, Pole's Big Adventure supports the Wiimote, Classic Controller, and GameCube Controller.

Rumor: Retailers leak Space Invaders Extreme 2, list features

March 26, 2009. That's when this mysterious Play-Asia listing says that Space Invaders Extreme 2 will be out in Japan (and therefore available from the importer). The listing has a DS product number that leads to other Japanese retailers' listings for the same thing -- which contain product descriptions! The most extensive description shows new features like a new "bingo system", boss formations, and enhanced multiplayer modes. With all these details, we're inclined to believe that this is real, and it's coming (to Japan) really soon. We've been playing more Space Invaders Extreme lately, and we're more certain than ever that it was one of the best games of 2008. We are officially entering FEVER TIME! We're totally setting ourselves up for crushing disappointment if it turns out not to be. Won't you join us in getting our hopes way, way up?[Via Siliconera]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Wii Fanboy Review: Ultimate Shooting Collection

A compilation of shooters on the Wii may seem a bit unnecessary or even redundant. The Wii already has what could be dubbed the "Ultimate Shooting Collection" -- though not on a single disc. The Virtual Console is loaded with a surfeit of shooters, including many of the best games in the genre's history. The Ultimate Shooting Collection, in comparison, is composed of just three games, some or all of which you may never even heard of. But just like there usually is an argument for a new game over an old one you've played, there is content of interest here that doesn't exist in the downloadable space. The games in Ultimate Shooting Collection are a great showcase for the evolution of the shooter genre, which may seem stagnant or even dead, in the modern age. Even with the piles upon piles of existing shooters, there aren't any like these on the Virtual Console.
