i need a little bit of help. im going to write a book based off the legend of zelda twilight princess but its not going to be the same as the game its going to be like all the other video game books like resistance gears of war or halo (which are really good books) when ever i get stuck i will come back here and ask you guys a question like now.
for the opening i'm going to do a look into the future (link finding the master sword) i want to know if i should do it in a dream sequence or a look into the future (like the conduit).
the reason i ask you is because i've always wanted to write a book but never was really good at it so i will periodically come back and ask you a questions.
heres the intro
Its the middle of the day and i’ve come a long way. I’ve been waiting for this day so long. I see it right in front of me but why can’t i touch it. I see it, its bright, metal shine is glowing in the sun light. But still i can’t touch it, its as if a forcefield is blocking me from going any further.
“LINK, LINK, WAKE UP LINK.”
“Ah!? What the... Where’s the sword,” I said stupidly.
“What are you talking about silly, I don’t see a sword”
“It was right in front of me... Ah, forget it. So why’d you come wake me up Talo.”
“Rusl, he wants to see you right away”
“Alright, tell him I’ll be right there.”
My name is Link, and this is The Legend of Zelda.
I went down to the dock and Rusl was already there. I walked up to him both confused and tired, he had a very excited look on his face. I greeted him then he told me to go grab Epona, the horse. I went up to the barn where I found Ilia, she was walking the horse around. “Do you mind if i borrow Epona for the day,” I said, but when I added as i saw the look of confusion on her face “Rusl asked me to go and get Epona, I’m not sure why.”
“That’s alright, I guess.”
“Thanks.”
I got on the horse and rode down to where Rusl was. But when i got there he told me to get off the horse. I thought that was a little strange first he tells me to get the horse then he tells me to get off the horse. “Where are we going,” I asked.
“Over the bridge and into the forest to get some wood, thats why I needed you to get Epona,” he answered. so on we went to the bridge. he pulled out a key and unlocked the gate. The bridge was very long, it took us nearly 5 minutes to get across it. When we got to a clearing with some trees I looked up and saw a strange figure: it looked like a monkey but it was purple and it was carrying a weapon. Rusl handed me an ax which I took then looked back up where I had saw the creature, but it was gone.
“What are you looking at,” Rusl asked me with a confused expression on his face.
“Just the amazing scenery of the forest,” I lied. I looked down and started chopping down trees. What I had seen was still bothering me, was it just my imagination or had something really been there. An hour or so passed and Rusl told me to wrap up the wood and put it on Epona’s back. It wasn’t that easy to wrap up the wood and tie it up, but once i was done I asked him “Have you ever seen something you thought was really there but then look back and it wasn’t.”
“Nah, can’t say that I have... Have you,” He asked with yet more confusion on his face.
“No, just wondering,” I said.
“Let me ask you something. Do you ever get a weird feeling at dusk, like that the world will soon be gone.”
“No”
We went over the bridge and headed towards the Ordon Village spring and took a rest there.
“Hey, listen here for a sec link. I have been asked to deliver a package to the castle of Hyrule, and I’m going to be taking you with me so I need you down here every morning at sunrise for swordsman training,” he said with an expression of excitement on his face but he didn’t show it in his voice.
“Okay,” I said and headed toward home. Wow, I thought he wants me to come with him to Hyrule castle with him. He must really be finally ready to teach me in the ways of the sword. I went home feeling really good about myself.
Chapter 1
I woke up the next day rather early so I decided before I would go to training I would go grab a glass of milk from the store next to the pond. After i finished my milk i went down to the spring, Rusl wasn’t there yet so I stood there for a moment taking in all the wonderful scenery. I was very excited to finally start sword training after 17 years. When Rusl arrived he had 2 swords in his hands, both were sanded down wood.
“Hey Link, how’s it goin.” He tossed me one of the wooden swords and said “Prepare yourself,” right after he said that he attacked me but in instinct I put the sword diagonally across my body to protect me from Rusl’s slash. “Good, very good instinct,” he said “But you have much to much to learn in a couple of weeks.”
“Okay, let me teach about the history of the sword. It was a long time ago-”
“-In a galaxy far away. I’ve been reading about this stuff ever since I was a little kid hoping that one day you would teach me in the ways of the sword. So you can skip the history lesson, Rus and get straight to teaching me.”
“Very well then, go fetch me an apple from that tree over there,” he said as he pointed straight ahead.
“What apple tree there’s no apple tree over there,” But as I said that I looked over there and sure enough there was an apple tree “How’d you do that.”
“Do what exactly.”
“Make that tree appear.”
“Eyes can be deceiving, Link.”
“Whatever, I’ll go get your apple.” I put down my sword and started walking towards the tree. I could of sworn there wasn’t an apple tree there I just don’t know- Rusl’s voice broke into my thoughts.
“You’re forgetting something.”
“How am I supposed to get an apple with a sword when you haven’t taught me anything yet,” I was starting to get really mad now.
“Use your imagination. ” I picked up the sword and thought about what to do. maybe if I threw the sword at the tree- no that wouldn’t work, what if I- yeah that would work. So i threw the sword at the branch the apple was hanging from and put my hand out to catch it when it fell.
“Good work, now retrieve the sword from the tree.” I looked up and the sword was hanging from the tree. I jumped up and grabbed it. As I did Rusl took a big bite out of the apple.
“What now?” I asked.
“Now, come at me.” I threw myself at him not knowing what to do I stuck out my sword and he stepped to the side as I fell to the ground. “Ha ha ha ha. There’s more to swordsmanship than a few fancy slashes, you also need to know how to defend yourself. Lets start with defense.”
“Okay.”
“To do the side step all you have to do is step to the side watch. come at me again and pay attention to my footwork.” I came at him but this time I was determined to hit him so I watched his feet carefully and saw he was stepping right so I moved to the right and hit him. “Nice, very nice. Some creatures we may come across will be as smart as you thats when you need to side step and roll, watch.” He side stepped the rolled around to my back side so he had a perfectly good chance to hit me. “Now you try. Just side step and get on the ground and roll around to my back side. Go on.” I did as he said but i didn’t make it all the way around him so he made me do it again and again until I got it right which took about an hour, then he said, “Thats enough for today.”
“Thank you. I am anxious to learn more,” I said being polite.
“Hey Link come with me,” Rusl said. Not sure what to do I followed him back to Ordon village and into his house. “This is what we are bringing princess Zelda,” He looked very excited as he showed me a sword and shield. “I will make a shield and sword for both you and me when these are done.”
I was both very confused and excited at the same time. “Are you serious! we might actually meet princess Zelda.”
“Yes we might but it is highly doubted,” Rusl replied as he handed me the wooden sword and said, “Practice.”
“I will.” I went home. When I got there there were 3 little kids there: Talo, Malo, and Beth. Talo almost jumped on me when he saw the sword in my hand.
“Show us something, PLEASE!” Said Talo.
“You can watch me practice on this dummy.” I started practicing the same maneuvers over and over again, then I think they finally got bored and left. I stopped practicing and went down to the store and got my self a glass of milk.
After I finished my milk I suddenly remember Fado asking me to come in and herd the goats. I went to the spring where Ilia was sure to be washing the horse. I walked to the spring and Ilia was there she was even more gorgeous in this day light than ever before. She turned around when she heard something but when she knew it was me she smiled at me and I smiled back at her. I stepped closer. “Thank you for washing Epona, Ilia,” I said.
“You’re welcome, I actually kind of like coming down here and washing Epona in the warm spring water.”
“Now that you mention it, it does kinda get you relaxed,” As Link said this he not knowingly stepped closer to Ilia. She moved even closer to him. Then he moved even closer and it was as if their heads were magnets attracted to each other, there heads were getting closer and closer until finally- Fado showed up and they quickly jumped apart both blushing.
“What’s goin on guys,” He said with a hint in his voice that sugguseted that he hadn’t noticed what they were doing. “Link I need you to come to the village ASAP with Epona, the goats have gotton out of hand their runnin all over the village.”
“Alright,” I made sure he was gone then said “Sorry ‘bout that but I have to go.” I left speeding toward the village on Epona passing Talo and Malo on my way. I got to the village and it was worse than I had expected but I herded them in the barn.
“Thank you Link, you’re a life saver.”
“Yeah, sure thing, it was no problem.”
“You all right kid.”
“Yeah, fine,” I lied. I headed down to mayor bo’s house (he was the father of Ilia.) It was still light out so i knocked.
“Oh, hey Link. What do you want.”
“Is Ilia home,” I asked trying to keep my voice as casual as possible but it must not have worked because he began to look mad.
“I will not allow you to date my daughter.”
“What. You thought I wanted to date her, all I wanted was for her to show me how to groom Epona.”
“OH! Thats alright. ILIA.”
“Yes daddy,” she said.
“Link here wants you to show him how to groom Epona.”
“Oh, okay I’ll go grab my brush.” She came back looking as if nothing had happened this afternoon. “Alright lets go.” Feeling a little awkward I followed her to the spring. By the time we got there it was twilight. She started telling me never to go in circles when brushing Epona but I wasn’t really paying attention I was paying attention to the sky: There was a little green portal up in the sky.
“LINK, are you listening to me.”
“Yeah.” She continued on explaining. I looked back up to the sky there was nothing there. I must have been day dreaming. “Ilia I’m gonna go home.”
“Okay.” I left for home and went straight to sleep.
A week past and my training was going good. After one session Rusl took me back to his house so I could see the swords and sheilds he made he also said I was ready to use metal (but I think its mainly because he also made shields.)A few more days passed and it was time to start getting ready for the big day. It was twilight and me and Rusl had all the stuff ready but Ilia was washing Epona, me and Rusl were waiting with all our stuff. Then I saw it again: a green portal in the sky (but this time I wasn’t day dreaming)
“LOOK!” I shouted at Rusl.
“Where,” said Rusl confused.
“Up in the sky.”
“Oh my.” Things were falling out of the sky: A purple monkey and a couple of giant Bulbins.
“ILIA, LOOK OUT.” But it was to late they had shot her with a bow and arrow and she was unconscious. Something hit me hard on the head and I was out cold.
“Hello, Link...I’ve been waiting for you,” I heard in my ear.
“Who are you.”
“I am both your conscience and hero trainer.”
“Where am I.”
“You are both no where and everywhere, I am here to teach you in the ways of the sword, much more complicated ways than you already know... I will first show you the ending blow. Now face me. Put both hands around the hilt and stand in a striking position. Now strike me, don’t worry I can’t be hurt anymore.” I struck him and he fell to the ground then said, “Good, now jump up and stab you sword into my chest.” I did so then he got up to say, “Well done, but you still have much to learn.”
I woke up a few hours later, Rusl was watching me nervously. “Are you alright,” he said as I got to my feet.
“Yeah, fine,” I said.
“You had me scared to death. Look Link, over there... Its some kind of force field I can’t get in.”
“Lets go together then.”
“Okay, but I don’t think it will help much if you’re there.”
“Can’t hurt to try, can it.”
“I suppose not,” and we were on our way.
I really like the idea, the Halo books are very good. For the beginning, I think you should go with looking into the future, and then tracking back days later to what Link did before he found the sword.
